With more than 30 years of experience as policy maker for the Netherland’s government, Martin has worked in several policy domains, including environmental policy, nature policy, international biodiversity policy and green growth policy. Currently, Martin is the Executive Director and member of the Management Board of the Capitals Coalition.

Martin is co-author of several national policy documents and has led public-private collaborative actions on natural capital in the Netherlands from 2014. In 2018, Martin initiated and leads the Government Dialogue on Natural Capital that is now extending to all capitals. Martin leads the Coalition’s involvement on biodiversity policy. He is the lead-author of the narrative publications Natural Capital for Governments: What, why and how (2019) and Natural Capital for Biodiversity Policy: What, Why and How (2021). Martin co-founded Business for Nature and is a member of the Coordination Group of this global business coalition that advocates for ambitious global policies to reverse biodiversity loss. He has been a member of the CBD’s Informal Advisory Group on Mainstreaming of Biodiversity (2019-2021). He also leads the Coalition’s work on Changing the Rules of the Game, and on its collaboration with Capitals Hubs across the world.


Martin is a member of the Board of the Partnership for Biodiversity Accounting Financials Foundation (PBAF Foundation) and also of MVO Nederland’s Advisory Board for the Chemical Sector.
