Paul Benson is a climate litigation specialist, with particular expertise in corporate management of climate risk and shareholder rights. Paul joined ClientEarth in 2020 after over ten years in private practice, primarily in the London and Berlin offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, where he advised a range of multinational clients in commercial litigation and contentious environmental matters. Paul was the lead lawyer in ClientEarth’s groundbreaking claim against the Board of Directors of Shell plc, which attracted unprecedented support from institutional investors, and which was the first ever case seeking to hold company directors personally liable for failing to properly prepare for the energy transition.
