David is Emeritus Professor of Corporate Responsibility at Cranfield University School of Management. He was founder director of Cranfield’s Doughty Centre for Corporate Responsibility 2007-17. David joined Cranfield in 2007 after a 30-year career as a social entrepreneur and campaigner for responsible business, economic regeneration, disability rights and diversity. He is a Companion of the Chartered Institute of Management and a founding Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability.

David has chaired several public bodies and charities in the UK. He currently chairs The Institute of Business Ethics and is an independent board member for a bank in the ASEAN region, for which he chairs the Group Risk Manageent Committee of the board. He is part of the Circle of Advisers for Business Fights Poverty and a member of the faculty for The Forward Institute.

David is the author of ten books. The latest - “The Sustainable Business Handbook,” - is co-authored with Chris Coulter and Mark Lee (Kogan Page 2022). He has also contributed chapters to a further 20 books. He co-hosts “All In: The Sustainable Business Podcast.”

He is currently working on a comparative history of the evolution of the Responsible Business movement in the UK and the US from 1970 to 2030.

During his career, he has done work with numerous multinational businesses as well as for many Responsible Business coalitions around the world and for the OECD, European Union and the World Bank.
