Edmund King has been President of the Automobile Association since 2008 and is a Trustee and Director of the AA Charitable Trust for Road Safety and the Environment. He is also a Visiting Professor of Transport at Newcastle University.

He has a politics degree from Newcastle University and a postgraduate diploma in broadcasting. He has worked for the Social Science Research Council, for a Government Department in Whitehall, in public relations for a wine company in Burgundy, in the motor industry in California, as a broadcaster in Los Angeles, as Campaigns Co-Coordinator for the British Road Federation, and for various motoring groups.

He has written several reports on transport and often appears as a transport commentator on radio, television and podcasts. He is an advisor to the Citizens Assembly UK on climate change.

He was awarded an OBE for ‘services to road safety’ in the 2016 Queen’s New Year Honours. He was runner-up in the Wolfson Economics Prize 2017 alongside his wife, Deirdre, for their thesis on ‘Road Miles’.
In 2020 he was inducted into the PRWeek ‘Hall of Fame’ and became just one of six inductees. He was also granted the Newspress ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and with his team won the PRWeek’s Best Public Affairs Campaign and PRCA Best Automotive Campaign for their work on ‘smart’ motorways.

Edmund is married to Deirdre and has three children. He lives in St Albans and enjoys watching football (Norwich City and his children’s games), driving an electric car, cycling, running and wine tasting.
