Bharat is leading the Technology and Innovation programme at Midlands Connect (MC). MC is a Sub-National Transport Body in the Midlands, comprising a partnership of 22 Local Authorities across Midlands, National Highways, Network Rail, HS2, and the Department for Transport (DfT).

Bharat role involves developing and delivering strategies and programmes across a broad portfolio of transport technologies in the Midlands. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of business cases and funding proposals to DfT; development of a national multi-modal contactless ticketing solution; preparation of regional and national business cases for contactless ticketing; accelerating electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the Midlands; delivering the Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund across multiple local authorities; advancing Mobility as a Service (MaaS); major road network technology; exploring alternative fuel technologies; identifying technology gaps across the region; and creating long-term technology roadmaps and action plans for the next 30 years.
