James is the Chief Operating Officer of the UK Infrastructure Bank, a UK government-owned policy bank, focused on increasing infrastructure investment in pursuit of tackling climate change and supporting regional and local economic growth across the United Kingdom. He is also a board member at MKS PAMP SA, a Swiss precious metals firm that provides trading services and operates a state-of-the-art precious metals refinery.
Prior to his current positions, he was a Senior Advisor with Oliver Wyman focused on financial services and digital assets having previously led Diem Networks LLC (previously Libra) in Switzerland, a global blockchain-based stable-coin and payments platform facilitating systematic innovation, taking the company from operational set-up to ‘go-live’ readiness including FINMA licensing.
Before joining Diem in 2020, James was with HSBC for 25 years, most recently as Chief Executive of HSBC Bank plc & Europe, where he ran HSBC’s Wholesale Bank in the UK and the business across Continental Europe. Prior to this he held various positions across Asia-Pacific, EMEA and the Americas including COO HSBC Europe, CEO HSBC Turkey and Global Head of Trade & Receivables Finance.
