Peter von Lany is a Director at Jacobs with responsibilities for climate change adaptation. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, with extensive experience in strategic water resources planning, flood risk management, and climate change impact assessment. He advises national and international public and private sector clients on applying decision-support techniques to developing resilience and adapting to climate change.

Peter is currently advising the Environment Agency on applying adaptation pathways with a strong focus on the strategic management of flood risk in the face of climate change. He also advises water utilities in England and Wales on embedding adaptive planning techniques within water resources planning processes and investment planning.

As Convenor of the British Standards Institution (BSI) working group on Climate Change Adaptation, Peter helped draft BS 8631:2021 on applying climate change adaptation pathways. He also contributed to drafting ISO 14090:2019 on climate change adaptation.

Peter holds memberships of the Operational Research Society, the International Association of Hydraulic Research (IAHR), and he sits on the Industrial Advisory Group to the Department of Engineering at the University of Exeter.
