Neville Ash is Director of the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), providing overall direction, strategy, and leadership to the Centre. UNEP-WCMC is the specialist biodiversity Centre of UNEP, based in Cambridge, UK. The Centre works with partners to strengthen decision making for nature across public and private sectors across the scope of its strategy. Neville has over 25 years’ experience working internationally at the science-policy interface on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people. He had a strong engagement in the development of the “Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework”, led the process to establish the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), and has previously been Deputy Director of UNEP’s Division of Environmental Policy Implementation, Head of IUCN’s Ecosystem Management Programme, and Head of Ecosystem Assessment at UNEP-WCMC, where he played a key role in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. He has worked with a range of regional and international assessment and policy processes, and spent time as a researcher and manager of conservation and development initiatives in Asia and Africa.
