Overview
We are delighted to announce that the next edition of City & Financial Global’s seminal Summit on the Reform of the UK Capital Markets will take place on 5 October. When the industry gathered for last year's Summit, attention was focused on the introduction of landmark listing reforms as part of the Government's ambitions to enhance the competitiveness of UK public markets. Twelve months on, the conversation has moved beyond these initial reforms, with the focus shifting to more fundamental, structural issues that need to be resolved.
Against a backdrop of global competition for capital, the UK needs to attract greater investment in its domestic equities markets from pension funds, retail investors and overseas investors, while at the same time completing the reforms of its trading and investment infrastructure based on blockchain and other technologies to minimise friction and increase efficiency. This year's Summit will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors, issuers and market infrastructure leaders to assess progress to date and identify what must happen next.
Issues to be addressed:
- How effective the recent regulatory reforms have been
- Unlocking pension fund investment
- Developing a retail investment culture (the Retail Investment Campaign)
- Attracting a greater level of international investment
- How the UK capital markets are moving to a fully tokenised future based on DLT
- The public-private markets relationship
- Developing a pipeline of high growth company IPOs
- The Dematerialisation Market Action Taskforce (DEMAT) report and reforms to the UK’s shareholding framework
As the focus shifts from reform design to delivery and outcomes, the Reform of the UK Capital Markets Summit 2026 provides a timely forum to evaluate progress, debate future priorities and explore how the UK can build deeper, more dynamic and internationally competitive capital markets.
