Paul is the chair of the UK Endorsement Board, charged by the Secretary of State with leading the UK's work on influencing the development of IASB accounting standards, as well as approving them for application. He also sits as a member of the UK Sustainable Reporting Technical Advisory Committee, which provides advice on the adoption of ISSB sustainability standards. Paul is on the advisory board for technology startup Impactive Tech, and delivers training for board directors and investors around the world.
Paul is unusual in bringing an investor's perspective to standard-setting, having spent more than 25 years in the City, at (among other places) Hermes, Aberdeen and Redington. He was a member of the secretariat for the Brydon Review of the Quality and Effectiveness of Audit, responsible for ensuring full investor input into the Review's thinking.
Paul writes extensively, including for the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law, the Investor Forum and the PLSA (now Pensions UK), as well as for mainstream media including the Financial Times and the Daily Telegraph. He was the author of various training materials for CFA UK. Paul runs the Most Significant Votes blog and writes the highly regarded Sense of Fairness blog.
