Birger joined Hargreaves Lansdown in September 2021 as Chief Digital and Information Officer and is responsible for leading HL’s digital and technology transformation to drive HL’s strategic vision. With over 1.7 million clients HL has an opportunity to leverage its market leading data and insight to drive innovation and help clients invest and save better. Ultimately, this will drive better client outcomes, as well as HL's ability to scale and serve more clients through seamless digital journeys and greater use of automation.

Prior to joining HL, Birger was Chief Technology Officer at Experian Decision Analytics, part of Experian, developing some of the world’s most advanced technology to derive insight and decisions from data underpinning many of the world’s credit, identity and fraud decisions. There Birger was part of the digital transformation and repositioning of the technology and business towards cloud. Before that Birger has held a variety of senior technology positions, including Group CIO at Cable and Wireless Communications.
