Dubbed “CryptoDad” for his celebrated call on the US Congress to respect a new generation’s interest in cryptocurrency, the Honorable J. Christopher Giancarlo served as Chairman of the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Today, he is Senior Counsel of Willkie Farr & Gallagher and C-Chair of Willkie Digital Works based in New York City.

Considered one of “the most influential individuals in financial regulation” Giancarlo also served as a member of the US Financial Stability Oversight Committee, the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets, and the Executive Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions.

Giancarlo is the author of “CryptoDad – The Fight for the Future of Money,” an account of his oversight of the world’s first regulated market for Bitcoin derivatives and the coming transformation of financial services, including the most valuable thing of all: money.

Giancarlo is Co-founder and Executive Chairman of the Digital Dollar Project, a not-for-profit initiative to advance exploration of a US Central Bank Digital Currency. He is also a board director, advisor and angel investor in numerous technology and financial services companies.

Among other recent recognitions, Giancarlo was appointed to the rank of Chevalier in the National Order of Merit by French President Macron in recognition of his expertise in “financial markets and the potentials of cryptofinance;” listed among the top US lawyers in “blockchain and cryptocurrency” in Chambers FinTech 2022, an annual ranking of leading law firms and practitioners; named a “Top Innovator in Financial Markets” by TabbForum and ranked among the top ten “Crypto Lawyers” in the United States by the American Crypto Association.
