Philip has over 25 years’ experience in political risk, business intelligence and investigations, advising clients on maximising opportunity in emerging and frontier markets. He co-leads the EMEA investigations team at J.S. Held, a US multi-disciplinary risk consultancy. Prior to this he was the CEO and co-owner of the investigations firm GPW Group prior to its acquisition by J.S Held in May 2022.
He has advised on issues ranging from deep dive sanctions reviews on Russia, Iran and China. geopolitical scenario planning, pre-transaction partner diligence, to helping companies respond to resource nationalism and state capture. He has lived and worked in Russia and Iran.
Philip has also acted as an expert witness., most recently in a Family Court case touching on the predictability of the Ukraine war; also as an Expert Witness in 2021 in Benyatov vs Credit Suisse Securities (Europe) Ltd in the High Court, Queens Bench Division (QB-2018-001043). He has also testified on the use of digital forensics in employment tribunals. He has been spotlighted in the Chambers & Partners legal guide for four years running (2020-2024) for Political Risk.
