James Arculus is Deputy Director General of the Takeover Panel, where he is responsible for regulating the conduct of all takeovers of public companies in the UK.
Prior to joining the Takeover Panel, James was a Managing Director and Head of UK Mergers & Acquisitions at Deutsche Bank.
In nearly 30 years in investment banking, James advised his clients on public and private corporate finance assignments including acquisitions, disposals, mergers and restructurings. He acted on many of the bank’s highest profile UK and cross-border transactions, including Caesar’s Entertainment’s bid for William Hill; 21st Century Fox’s offer for Sky and the sale of its 39% stake to Comcast; bwin.party’s contested public auction and sale to GVC Holdings; The Coca-Cola Company’s three-way merger to form Coca-Cola European Partners; the sale of Northern Rock to Virgin Money; the hostile bid by Kraft Foods for Cadbury; and Scottish & Newcastle’s defence against and sale to Carlsberg and Heineken.
James joined the corporate finance department of Morgan Grenfell in 1993 having previously graduated with a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Bristol.
