Derek Shakespeare joined the Takeover Panel in August 2026 as Director General on a two-year secondment from Deutsche Bank, where he was Chairman, EMEA Mergers & Acquisitions. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in 2022, Derek held senior M&A roles at Barclays, Bank of America and Credit Suisse.
Derek has acted for clients across a wide range of sectors, advising on hostile and recommended takeovers, bid defences, mergers and private company transactions, in the UK and internationally.
Derek began his investment banking career in the corporate finance department of County Bank in 1992 and holds an MA (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
