Dr Gareth Headdock is Vice President, Government and New Build at the National Nuclear Laboratory. In this role, Gareth works closely with government to identify how NNL can support the delivery of policy through nuclear research programmes, working in close collaboration with the wider sector and international partners. Recently, he led NNL’s implementation of the Advanced Fuel Cycle Programme (AFCP) – a £56m government-funded programme delivered through more than 100 organisations across UK industry. Gareth’s portfolio also includes work in support of the UK’s new build activities, including both SMR and AMR. Gareth joined NNL in 2018 as Science and Technology Director – a position he held until taking up his current role in 2021. Prior to joining NNL, he worked for 12 years at Johnson Matthey, latterly in the role of Research and Development Director, where he managed groups across the UK, Europe and the US.
