Helen is the EMEA General Counsel and oversees the legal risk management for the EMEA region, leading a team of over 165 lawyers and legal services professionals based across London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, Brussels, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Wroclaw. Helen is a member of the International Leadership Team and is the advisor to BNY’s legal entities in the
EMEA region.

Helen started her legal career with Allen & Overy and has 30 years’ experience across law and the financial services industry in the UK and Hong Kong and is also a qualified Company Secretary. She held senior legal roles with Credit Suisse and Merrill Lynch before moving to Barclays Investment Bank in 2004, where she led the global Markets Legal teams. For four years from 2014 she served as the Global General Counsel of Barclays Wealth. Helen was invited to work with the Bank of England as a “virtual partner” for eight months, before joining BNY Mellon in 2019.

Helen is the EMEA EC sponsor of the firm’s diverse abilities resource group, HEART, which raises awareness and leverages the talent of employees with diverse abilities to help build an inclusive culture and accessible environment at BNY Mellon. She is also the EMEA EC sponsor of the firm’s relationship with the Sutton Trust, the UK charity that champions social mobility through programmes, research and policy influence. Helen is the senior sponsor of the Legal Department’s Community Outreach Programme.
