Richard Parlone graduated from the Open University with a degree in environmental management. He joined the UK nuclear industry in 1989, working at the Sizewell A Power Station site in Suffolk, a twin steel pressure vessel Magnox reactor which ceased electricity generation at the end of 2006. During his 16 years at Sizewell A, he was responsible for aspects of the operational radiological protection, radioactive waste, environmental monitoring and environmental management programmes. In 2005 he moved to Sizewell B, a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) that produces around 3% of the UK’s electricity. Richard’s 18 years in EDF has included 4 years working on the Hinkley Point C project as an Environmental Arrangements Manager. Richard is currently the Head of Radiological Protection and is a Radiation Protection Adviser and Radioactive Waste Adviser, responsible for the radiation protection programme at Sizewell B, covering normal operation, refuelling outages and dry fuel storage campaigns.
