Speaker Bio
Jan is Head of our Financial Regulation Group and Chair of our Financial Institutions Group. Jan’s practice focuses on matters of strategic importance to financial institutions, with a range of experience on multi-jurisdictional M&A, ECM and DCM transactions, alongside regulatory advice (both contentious and non-contentious). Much of his non-transactional advice focuses on helping our financial institutions clients manage risks that are fundamental to their business models, and to help avoid disputes with regulators and counterparties through robust reasoning and argument.

Jan acts for a broad range of financial institutions, including banks, investment banks, brokers, insurance and reinsurance groups, market infrastructure operators, asset managers and fintech businesses. He has up to date insights into the UK financial regulators’ developing policies and EU developments on matters of critical importance to financial services businesses. He has done extensive work over the years on the risk of civil liability for firms following FCA enforcement action. Much of his focus is on presenting the complex issues involved in a fundamentally straightforward way, facilitating the understanding of clients, their boards and regulators of legal challenges, transactions, business models and structures.

Jan is listed as a leading individual (Band 1) in the Financial Services: Non-Contentious Regulatory section of Chambers UK, and in the ‘Hall of Fame’ for Financial Services: Non-Contentious Regulatory in Legal 500.
