Summary
City & Financial Global is delighted to announce its second annual Summit on the Future of UK Capital Markets Regulation, taking place in Central London on 11 November.
The purpose of the Summit is to provide a forum for companies and capital markets practitioners to address the Labour government’s avowed commitment to improving the competitiveness of London as a financial centre. The FCA have introduced a raft of reforms intended to make London more attractive as a listing venue of choice. However, there are a number of other factors affecting future growth and investment in the UK markets. Chief amongst these is the drive to encourage greater investment in the UK markets by pension funds both to boost growth and to provide greater access to capital to companies. The Summit will also address the burgeoning private markets, which may account for some companies’ reluctance to seek a listing, or indeed decide to de-list, and will look at how PISCES will work in terms of bridging the gap between public and private. Other issues to be addressed include the cultural shift in the relationship between shareholders and companies; the FCA’s latest rules on how investment research is paid for; reforming the rules on short selling; encouraging greater retail participation in the capital markets; and the impact of UK attitudes to executive remuneration on attracting and retaining talent in the City.
