Summary

Natural Capital Summit 2022 comes at a crucial time with companies coming under increasing pressure to identify, manage and report on nature-related risks and opportunities. This summit will assess in detail the challenges companies face in reporting on biodiversity, analyse the tools and methodologies available to assist in the process and discuss the regulatory future of this type of reporting. It is a summit not to be missed by any business wishing to stay ahead of impending regulation, streamline their reporting and lead on sustainability.

Currently, financial institutions and companies do not have the information they need to understand how nature impacts the organisation’s immediate financial performance, or the longer-term financial risks that may arise from how the organisation, positively or negatively, impacts nature. City & Financial Global’s Natural Capital Summit will gather some of the most senior leaders and experts of this field to share their knowledge, experience and expertise on how nature impacts an organisation’s immediate financial performance and how to Integrate biodiversity and natural capital into their planning, risk management and reporting functions. Attendance will be invaluable for all companies that want to get to grips with nature-based reporting and disclosure, to anticipate impending regulation and to demonstrate their leadership on sustainability issues to their stakeholders.

Responding to the needs of corporates, financial institutions and their investors for more clarity and guidance, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has released version 0.2 of its beta framework for nature related risk and opportunity management and disclosure, including the Taskforce’s approach to metrics. The set of illustrative metrics will be expanded to include risk, opportunity, and response assessment metrics as well as disclosure metrics in future updates to the beta framework scheduled for November 2022 and February 2023.

While the final rules are not yet published, the underlying principles of what is required are clear. Early adopters will reap significant competitive advantage in relation to their stakeholders and market perception.
